When he broke out in Norway and then Austria, Erling Haaland looked like the perfect Manchester United player.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was frustrated to miss out on Haaland having suggested him when he played for Molde, which would have been a real bargain for United.
Haaland would have considered a United move, but the club failed to act and missed out on the now world-class number nine.
Currently at Man City, Solskjaer has admitted he doesn’t agree with one decision he made.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer disagrees with one decision made by Erling Haaland
The two Norwegian strikers appeared in a TikTok for a Norwegian outlet TV 2 Sport, with Haaland’s career path being discussed.
“So, I chose Dortmund, and it turned out to be very good, perfect, well, not perfect, but again, nothing is perfect, but it was very good,” Haaland said.
“I developed, they bet on me, and I got to play.”
Solskjaer then admitted Haaland chose his career move well, but suggested he thinks he should have joined United instead.
“You’ve been good with those choices, and of course, for me, you’ve made some other choices than the ones I would have made,” Solskjaer said.
“At least that one choice I think should have been made differently!”
The pair laughed, but deep down, Solskjaer will be annoyed at United for not getting a deal done.

Manchester United dropped the ball with Erling Haaland
Solskjaer was desperate for United to sign Haaland when he was at the club, urging recruitment staff.
In 2025, Solskjaer said he told United to sign Haaland, only for a move to be ignored.
“I tell the club straight away. Buy him. Straight away.”
If United had followed Solskjaer’s advice and bought Haaland from Molde, there is no promise that he would have reached the top.
But his natural ability as a number nine was always clear, and it’s a transfer Ineos would now complete with their commitment to signing youth.
