Ruben Amorim has big team selection decisions to make ahead of Thursday’s Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The biggest talking point at the weekend came when Ruben Amorim dropped both Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford from the matchday squad for the Manchester derby.

It ultimately worked out in Amorim’s favour as United beat Manchester City 2-1 at the Eithad Stadium.

However, it remains to be seen if Garnacho or Rashford will be brought back into the team to face Tottenham.

Amorim has other attacking players to pick from, including Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

All players should be looking to take their opportunities under United’s new head coach.

Manchester United have two doubts for Carabao Cup quarter-final vs Tottenham

Amorim was forced to make two substitutions in the derby due to injuries.

As a result, Mason Mount has been ruled out of the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham.

Noussair Mazraoui, who has been United’s most consistent player this season, is questionable after sustaining a knock against City.

Amorim used his pre-match press conference to confirm that the rest of the squad is fit.

“Mason Mount is not available,” Amorim said. “He has an injury.

“Nous, we will see today. The rest of the squad are ready to play the game.

“We have to assess all the players and try not to get a lot of injuries. If we do that, we’ll be stronger in these kind of moments.”

Who can take Mazraoui’s place at right wing-back?

Finding a replacement for Mazraoui in the United squad is next to impossible because we’re light in that department and he’s arguably the most technical player in the squad.

Diogo Dalot is the most likely option to start at right wing-back, while Tyrell Malacia could operate on the opposite flank.

Another option would be to play either Amad Diallo or Antony as wing-backs, which would be far from ideal because the defensive side of their game is lacking.

While Dalot is the safest bet at right wing-back, the Portugal international has struggled for form this season.
