Sergio Reguilon was perhaps one of maybe two or three bright sparks from Manchester United during their dismal home defeat to Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton side.

The Spanish left-back, who joined the club on loan from Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day, made his debut for the Red Devils and was superb all day.

The former Real Madrid defender seemed to form a deadly linkup with Marcus Rashford down the left-hand side and that may well blossom as the weeks go on.

Reguilon made a crunching tackle barely 15 seconds in which got the crowd on their feet and seemingly endeared himself to the Old Trafford faithful with his passion.

Reguilon risk pays off

There was certainly a risk when United decided to sign the Spanish defender on loan from Tottenham but that risk may well pay off.

Not only was Reguilon good going forward but the Spaniard was decent going the other way too, which will be welcome news for Erik ten Hag during a difficult period for his side.

It could have been Marc Cucurella charging down the left-hand side with Rashford but instead, it is Reguilon and the rather cheaper option may well be the better one, so far.

Should Reguilon start against Bayern

The question will now inevitably turn to whether the Spaniard will start at the Allianz Arena against a formidable Bayern side and it seems, based on this performance, the defender will surely start.

It may well be a risk to start the Spaniard against formidable wingers like Leroy Sane, Kingsley Coman and Sadio Mane but it seems Ten Hag trusts the former Sevilla man.

Reguilon could well be a potent attacking weapon, despite his defensive liabilities, and it seems likely, in Luke Shaw’s continued absence, that the defender will start in a crucial UEFA Champions League encounter.
