Andre Onana has showcased his personality as he defended his teammates in a brilliant response to a question in an interview.

Manchester United‘s new goalkeeper has already shown himself to be a top personality in goal, embodying Erik ten Hag on the pitch.

From game one, it was clear he would demand a lot from the defence and wouldn’t allow poor defending to be gotten away with as he confronted Harry Maguire.

In recent weeks, he has had a go at his other defenders too showing he treats everyone the same.

But in an interview prior to Manchester United’s game against Bayern Munich, Old Trafford‘s number one has shown his leadership qualities in another light.

Andre Onana showcases leadership qualities

In recent games Andre Onana has conceded far more than he would have wanted to.

While most of these were the defenders fault, Onana refuses to throw them under the bus.

In an interview with tv2sport, Onana was approached with the interviewer beginning his question by saying: “You have let in 10 goals & I know it’s not your fault…”

Onana stopped him there, with a hand on the interviewers shoulder and explained to him: “No, we are in this together. We win & lose together. If we keep a clean sheet, it’s for all of us. My teammates are working hard & if they have to point finger, they have to point it at me, because I’m the goal keeper.”

A brilliant response to a question designed to trip him up, but instead allowed him to showcase himself as a leader.

The type of personality needed

Given the current negative attitude perceived to surround Manchester United, the attitude displayed here is hugely welcomed.

Refusing to be pressured into blaming others to save himself, Onana is happy to have all the criticism on himself if it helps his teammates.

This attitude will come in really useful for United given the lack of accountability the previous goalkeeper took.

The way Onana speaks as well inspires confidence, which for us is brilliant to see, and we imagine the defenders are delighted by his response too.
