Neville says Fernandes is the only United player who could play for City

Gary Neville has been looking ahead to the Manchester derby with fellow Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards.

In a video ahead of the game, Neville was asked whether any current Manchester United players would get into Pep Guardiola’s City team.

Neville said that not even Cristiano Ronaldo would get into the City side because their attacking options are too strong.

He said that Bruno Fernandes is the only United player who could play for City but even said that he would not remove any of Guardiola’s midfielders to get him in.

When the statement was put to Neville that no United players would get into the City team, he said: “I agree. I’ll be really honest about it. I can go through them.

“Dias, Laporte, Cancelo, Walker – better than all United’s back four. Midfield, Fernandinho and Rodri are better than United’s holding midfield players.

“Bernardo Silva, Gundogan, de Bruyne – Bruno’s the only one. Bruno’s the only one that I think could over the last 12 to 18 months. But de Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Mahrez, Foden, Sterling – I can’t put Bruno ahead of Bernardo Silva or de Bruyne at the moment.

“I just can’t. It’s a sad indictment, really. You can’t put Ronaldo in at the moment. Currently, as they’re playing now – no chance.”

We’ve got Ronaldo out of our predicted United lineup for the game, with Bruno pushed forwards into a more advanced role.

The Portuguese superstar has only got one goal in 2022, but Neville did admit in the video that he would probably have notched up more this season if he went to City.

There was of course talk of Ronaldo going to City before he re-joned United in the summer and Guardiola still needs an established frontman.

But they will probably use a false nine tomorrow, while United need to be more clinical and start taking the chances they have been making in recent weeks.
