Nemanja Vidic has praised Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez, speaking in an interview with Rio Ferdinand.
Vidic spoke to his former centre-back partner Ferdinand on his Five channel on YouTube.
He told of his regret that Lisandro Martinez is currently out injured, explaining that he likes watching him play.
Martinez’s defensive qualities have seen many observers compare him to Nemanja Vidic. It is a comparison the Serbian appreciates.

Vidic backs Lisandro Martinez
Nemanja Vidic admits he was unsure of Lisandro Martinez before he joined the club, and has quickly been won over.
Vidic explained: “I like him. He likes to defend. I had doubt when he came because of his height. He’s good in the air. He knows how to position himself.
“Definitely he’s a good character and he’s good for the dressing room. He has the winning mentality, he’s a fighter.
“You need to have these type of players [who are] energy signing. Unfortunately he is injured now but he is a great signing for us. He did great.”
Martinez played a key role in Manchester United winning the Carabao Cup, also winning the World Cup with Argentina, and has helped the Red Devils move into a top four place in the Premier League.
The summer signing from Ajax’s season ended with a broken metatarsal sustained against Sevilla. But he will be back in for pre-season.
It has been a treat to watch Martinez play. He is brave and defends with the same sort of determination Vidic did during his time at Old Trafford, and there is so much more to come.
