Nemanja Matic looking forward to rejoining Mourinho, says it won't be easy
Nemanja Matic is the first player released by Manchester United this summer to find a new club.
Matic was unveiled as a Roma player, posing with the shirt and his new squad number at the Serie A side, which is 21.
Matic chose to take on a new challenge in Serie A after spending five seasons at Manchester United.
He played 189 games for United in all competitions, scoring four goals.
Now 33, this summer was a good time for Matic to move on for a new challenge, and he has certainly got one at Roma.
Matic links up with former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho for a third time, having also worked with him at Chelsea.
He knows him well, admitting it was part of the attraction, but also realises he is letting himself in for a demanding time.
Matic told Roma’s official website: “Working with him is not always easy, he can be a tough coach but he is a winner and he is the type of coach I want to work with.
“I am looking forward to working with him and with the team.
“The team has great potential, I watched a few games also because my former teammates were playing. By working well we can achieve great goals.”
Matic also said he is looking forward to testing himself in Italian football for the first time.
He said: “Serie A attracts me, there are great teams, it’s not easy to play. I like challenges.”
Mourinho’s first full season at Roma ended on a high after winning the Europa Conference League final 1-0 against Feyenoord.
They finished sixth last season, qualifying for the Europa League, so there is potential for Matic and Mourinho to come up against Manchester United later this upcoming season.
