Former Manchester United winger Nani is writing a new chapter in his career.
On a day where former Manchester United winger Ashley Young announced his retirement, a former teammate has well and truly reversed his own decision to call it quits.
Nani announced his own retirement in December 2024 after a spell in Portugal with hometown club Estrela Amadora. He even played as an opponent in one of the final games Ruben Amorim took charge of at Sporting.
But the former Manchester United winger has decided he has a little more football left in him.

Who is the most underrated Manchester United player ever?
Nani out of retirement, onto the scoresheet
Nani decided to halt his retirement at the end of January 2026, signing a short-term deal with Kazakhstan based side Aktobe.
He agreed a deal that will run until December, and he has just scored his first goals for his new club.
The former Manchester United winger is now 39, and has made nine appearances for Aktobe in total.
This week (April 30), Nani scored both goals in a 2-1 win in the Kazakhstan Cup against Yelimay.
He opened the scoring with a left-footed shot from the edge of the box that glanced in off the inside of the post.
Nani then curled in a low effort with his left foot from the outside of the box with eight minutes to go, to give his side a 2-0 lead.
He did not do his trademark somersault celebration for the first goal – he is 39 after all. After the second, and some encouragement from a teammate, he could not resist doing it one more time.
A packed out stadium were clearly delighted to see his efforts hit the back of the net, with fans standing up to applaud the former Portugal international, and Champions League winner.
Nani was presented with the man of the match award after the game.
He even posted to Instagram: “Special feeling today 😊💪🏾 Scoring goals always feels good, but what makes me happiest is helping the team achieve the objective. We deserved this win and to qualify.”

Nani’s globe-trotting career
It’s not a surprise that Nani decided he had one more adventure left in him, and this might not even be the last.
In addition to his spells in England and Portugal, Nani has played all over the world, with stints in Turkey, Spain, Italy, USA, and Australia.
Showcasing an ability to still get on the scoresheet, Nani is justifying his decision to end his brief retirement.
If Cristiano Ronaldo can play at 41, Nani can certainly contribute at 39.
