MUTV pundits praise Man Utd star for moment that was reminiscent of ‘Paul Scholes and The Matrix’

Manchester United had a number of magic moments in the win over Brighton, including a dramatic fourth goal.

Old Trafford is a special place when Manchester United are winning, and the 4-2 victory against Brighton was a game that had a little bit of everything.

Bryan Mbeumo scored the clincher, ruthlessly converting for his second strike of the game after a long pass upfield from substitute Ayden Heaven.

But the real key was the dummy from Bruno Fernandes, allowing the ball to run into space that Mbeumo took full advantage of.

Bruno Fernandes’ role for goal praised

Bruno Fernandes did not get the assist, but his impressive contribution to the goal did not go unnoticed.

Former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune spoke highly of Fernandes’ awareness.

Fortune told MUTV: “The awareness, that’s Scholesy level, that’s like Keanu Reeves in The Matrix. I loved that by Bruno.”

Fellow pundit Fraizer Campbell praised the anticipation from Mbeumo to read what Fernandes was going to do.

He explained: “Mbeumo’s on the same wavelength. You could easily stand up front and say ‘oh he’s dummied it and I’m late’, but he’s anticipated it as well, thinking ‘there’s a chance here’, he gets his second, great finish.”

Manchester United had led the game 3-0 before Brighton pulled two goals back to set up a potentially nervous finish with seven minutes of stoppage time.

United handled the final minutes well and Mbeumo’s late strike put the goal beyond doubt.

Ben Thornley told MUTV: “The fourth goal was sensational. Amongst many really good performances, Bryan Mbeumo was the pick of them.”

Manchester United turning Old Trafford into a fortress

The win was Manchester United’s fourth home win in a row, following victories over Burnley, Chelsea, Sunderland and Brighton.

Fernandes scored in two of these games, and made a major imprint on the team’s late goal against Brighton.

Winning at home is key for Manchester United to get supporters onside and ease pressure on Ruben Amorim, and it’s helping the players too.

Speaking after the game Bryan Mbeumo said: “Honestly, it’s so good. The atmosphere is crazy here. The fans are unbelievable. It is always good to score but especially here.

“With the goals, even when we have the ball, when we win a tackle.

“When we win a throw-in, win a foul. Everything is great here and I wish we could play every game here.”
