MUTV pundit says Manchester United should not start £64m star in next game

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has made a positive impact since coming into the team. Is it time for a breather?

It was great to see Manchester United earn a 1-0 win over Burnley on Saturday night. It was much needed, after three straight losses in all competitions.

The game was also Rasmus Hojlund‘s first win in a Manchester United shirt. It is a feeling he should get used to.

And yet, as United start planning towards another victory, against Crystal Palace on Tuesday night, there is some debate over whether the Dane should start the game.

‘Leave Rasmus Hojlund out’

£64 million striker Rasmus Hojlund arrived at Manchester United with a minor injury which prevented him from taking part in any of the first three games of the season.

Since then he has appeared as a substitute, played twice for Denmark, and started three Manchester United games.

MUTV pundit Phil Bardsley told the channel he believes it may be time for Hojlund to have a rest this Tuesday at home to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.

Bardsley told the channel after the win over Burnley: “We’ve asked a lot of Hojlund over the last couple of weeks.

“He’s probably one you’d look at, probably leave him out of that game.”

He added that ‘momentum is key’, and did not expect too many changes aside from a possible striker switch.

Anthony Martial would come in

Anthony Martial would come in if Hojlund is rested, to make his first start since before the international break.

Martial missed pre-season and did not look sharp, however, he was praised after a strong cameo performance against Bayern Munich, in which he set up a goal for Casemiro.

Owen Hargreaves picked out his contribution, and Martial may relish an opportunity to build on this at home to Palace in midweek.
