Manchester United winger Antony was selected as a starter by Erik ten Hag against Chelsea and the Brazilian delivered an all-action display.

Antony has not had an easy season for Manchester United on or off the pitch and ahead of last night’s game he spoke out about what he felt was unfair criticism.

The man whose opinion really matters is Erik ten Hag, and the Manchester United manager rates him very highly.

Ten Hag selected Antony as a starter against Chelsea and kept him on for the entire game. What he got was a full-on performance from the winger as the Red Devils won 2-1.

Antony collapsed at full-time

Antony collapsed at the final whistle after a relentless performance, full on effort, which was exactly what Manchester United fans demanded.

Speaking on MUTV after seeing Antony crash down on the turf, pundit Danny Webber said this summed up his performance.

Webber said: “Antony falls to the ground knowing what he’s put in. These are the results you get when you put in a shift, you make your own luck.

“Everybody on the pitch is pulling in the same direction, making it awkward for Chelsea when they have got the ball.”

Antony gave everything

What we are still looking for from Antony is end product, and the search for a first goal or assist this season goes on.

But what you do get from him is maximum effort, and his performance had reasons to be encouraged, with Manchester United supporters impressed.

Antony created two chances, attempted four shots, and won one penalty. He also played with confidence, bringing out the tricks, embarrassing Thiago Silva in the first half.

He won seven duels in total, winning four fouls, with 52 touches in all. His display helped set the tone, and United want more of this going forward.
