Manchester United’s under-performing strikeforce stepped up to fire the team to a 3-2 win over Aston Villa.
Manchester United pulled off an impressive comeback to beat Aston Villa 3-2 after conceding two goals in the first half hour.
After recent struggles in front of goal, and Aston Villa’s recent resilient streak, the odds were firmly in favour of the away side holding out for the win.
Indeed, a 4-0 win for Villa had seemed more likely at 2-0, than a 3-2 comeback. So Manchester United deserve real credit for turning it around.

Alejandro Garnacho inspires win
Alejandro Garnacho was excellent in the second half, scoring two goals and seeing another disallowed.
He was voted as the man of the match by supporters and also selected by host broadcaster Amazon Prime.
Garnacho was also singled out for praise on MUTV, with pundit and former academy player Danny Simpson talking him up.
Simpson said: “He’s enthusiastic, he’s got energy, that’s what you need. He was the reason we won the second half.
“His running, his energy, he closed the full-back down. Thats what fans want to see. They were here cheering after the game. That’s what they want to see Manchester United sides do.”
Alex Bruce agreed Garnacho was ‘the outstanding candidate’ for the man of the match award.
Crucial win at Old Trafford
This was a great way for Manchester United to sign off at Old Trafford in the final home game of 2023.
It has been a mixed year, including some real highlights and some low points, many of the latter which have come this season.
This latest victory showed some fight, and United will need to keep on showing it. Aston Villa are a very good team, and this was a statement home win, the type which will help hopefully turn Old Trafford back into the fortress it was last season.
