MUTV pundit praises ‘unbelievable’ moment from Man Utd star, ‘reminded me of Eric Cantona’

Manchester United produced a second half comeback to remember against Southampton, and one to be relieved about.

While it’s always great to win games late, Manchester United fans would have preferred another 9-0 against Southampton than this frustrating encounter.

Southampton were on top for large stretches of the game, and after scoring from a corner, they deserved their lead.

Amad eventually broke their resistance, grabbing an equaliser, a winner, and then a hat-trick goal for good measure in stoppage time.

Christian Eriksen pass provides winner

Christian Eriksen was one of Ruben Amorim’s final substitutes, sent on in the 83rd minute just after Amad’s equaliser.

Eriksen made the most of his minutes, providing the assist for Amad’s second goal, with a little chip into his path.

The midfielder’s assist was praised by former United talent Alex Bruce, who made a bold comparison on MUTV, after host Helen Evans had described the pass as ‘unbelievable’.

Bruce said: “It was a great ball, really good. And he’s got that in his locker, and he reminded me of Eric, reminded me of Eric Cantona’s little chip at the far end, it was a similar kind of ball and great little pass and real good finish.”

Any time any Manchester United player does something that can be compared to the great Eric Cantona, it is a good moment, whether you believe the likeness justified or not.

Christian Eriksen first assist under Ruben Amorim

Christian Eriksen has not had a lot to smile about since Ruben Amorim took over as head coach.

It is widely accepted he will be allowed to leave when his contract runs down in the summer, and his importance to the team has been diminished since Erik ten Hag’s sacking.

This was Christian Eriksen’s fourth assist of the season – and the first since Manchester United’s 3-3 draw with Porto, when Ten Hag was still in charge.

He also has four goals this season, with the last coming against Fenerbahce back in October.
