Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo showed an extra side to his game in the FA Cup fourth round clash.

Kobbie Mainoo scored his first senior goal for Manchester United, netting the second goal in the FA Cup win over Newport.

Mainoo needed just one-touch to sweep the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box after an assist from Diogo Dalot.

This continues an impressive rise from the 18-year-old midfielder, who has established himself as a regular starter in Manchester United’s midfield.

Kobbie Mainoo scores first goal

Kobbie Mainoo is on the rise and his contribution was praised on MUTV, amid a fiercely contested FA Cup clash.

Wes Brown told the channel’s coverage: “He’s a really good talent, a young talent, the manager has trust in him and believes in his ability. He is putting him in games ahead of top players.”

This view was backed by his former teammate Quinton Fortune, who praised his efforts.

Fortune said: “Since he’s come into the team he’s been one of our best players. The goal will give him even more confidence

“To see him come in and play with that maturity is unbelievable.”

Manchester United made to work for win

When Kobbie Mainoo scored his goal against Newport to make it 2-0, Manchester United looked to be cruising to a heavy victory, following up Bruno Fernandes’ early strike.

But credit to Newport, they fought back, while United took their foot off the pedal and eased up, becoming wasteful in front of goal.

Newport scored a goal before and just after half-time to level the score at 2-2, giving a strong account of themselves.

An unlikely scorer restored United’s lead, Antony netting to make it 3-2 after Luke Shaw‘s effort had hit the post. His agent this week told us he was focused on scoring goals.

Rasmus Hojlund added a fourth goal late on, netting in stoppage time to score his eighth of the season.

Into the next round, United will face either Bristol City or Nottingham Forest away, pending the result of their replay.
