Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez did not complete the game against Wolves, replaced late on.

Centre-back Lisandro Martinez impressed for Manchester United against Wolves on his first Premier League start since September.

The Argentine helped United’s build-up play from the back, as well as clearing a goal-bound effort off the line.

But he did not complete the game, substituted off in the 86th minute and replaced by Harry Maguire, with United 3-2 up. United eventually won 4-3.

Lisandro Martinez seen with ice pack on sidelines

The World Cup winner was seen on the sidelines with an ice pack on his foot, being treated by medical staff.

Considering Martinez spent two spells out with injury in 2023, fans are understandably worried over whether this is another setback.

Optimistic view of Martinez issue

There is no point jumping to negative conclusions, because Lisandro Martinez might not even be injured at all.

Speaking to MUTV, former Manchester United trainee Danny Webber explained why supporters might not have anything to worry about.

The ex-pro told Matchday Review: “You hope it’s a precaution. When you’ve had bad injuries over time, sometimes you do just ice it as a precaution.”

Manchester United would be wise to take no chances at all. Martinez underwent surgery on a foot injury back in September.

Webber added that he has reason to be confident Martinez may not be badly affected.

He added: “He’s played brilliant tonight. You see after the game he’s walking around on his feet, it can’t be too bad.”

There were no reports of Martinez leaving in a walking boot. This might really just have been a precautionary issue.

Ten Hag wants more

Erik ten Hag explained after the game that several of his stars are still working their way back to their top levels.

He told club media: “Our players will get in a better fitness status. Some are not there where we want them and that’s normal, because they were a long time injured and they are on their way back. Now they have to go back to 100 per cent match fitness.”
