MUTV pundit gives verdict on Mason Mount performance, and says he tried to find mistake with teammate – it was impossible

On a night where Manchester United conceded two goals at home, the overwhelming feeling was one of positivity.

That’s because Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils produced three goals at Old Trafford, on a night where the positives outweighed the negatives.

We saw Rasmus Hojlund net twice and assist another, we saw Tyrell Malacia make his first start in 18 months, and Luke Shaw make a second appearance in a row.

Another positive wasMason Mount, who was making his first Manchester United start since August, and first appearance since October.

Mason Mount has been tipped as a winner in the Ruben Amorim system, and after watching his first near-hour under his new boss, it’s easy to see why.

Mount hit the crossbar, coming close to scoring his first goal since March, when he netted against Brentford.

Mount’s performance was lauded by former United talent Ben Thornley, who picked him out on MUTV when asked to name who had impressed him.

Thornley named Mount, commenting: “He hasn’t played a lot of football but he’s such an intelligent footballer.

“He could fit in this system. He’s caught my eye and I want him to catch it further.”

Noussair Mazraoui also stood out

If a Mason Mount performance was a rarity, a Noussair Mazraoui display was simply routine.

Speaking out on Mazraoui, Thornley explained he was actually trying to see if the usually immaculate Moroccan would make a single mistake, and he failed to spot one.

He commented: “He really was [good], honestly, I’m trying to point at where at any time did he make the wrong decision?

“Did he give the ball away? Was he caught out positionally? And the answer to that is no, he was outstanding, and he’s been outstanding since he arrived.

“I think he’s been a wonderful addition.”
