MUTV pundit explains what he spotted Erik ten Hag do with Kobbie Mainoo when Man Utd went 1-0 up v Wigan

Manchester United sauntered into the FA Cup fourth round with a comfortable win away at Wigan Athletic.

Manchester United won the game 2-0 with Portuguese duo Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes netting the goals for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Aside from an early Wigan attack which drew a save from Andre Onana, Manchester United were totally dominant.

Dalot put United ahead in the first half, before Bruno Fernandes put the result beyond doubt with a second half penalty.

Kobbie Mainoo was excellent

Teenager Kobbie Mainoo started the game, and he played all 90 minutes in the victory, showing his importance to the team.

Speaking to MUTV, former Red Devils ace Danny Webber says he spotted Erik ten Hag pulling him aside after Manchester United’s opener.

Webber told the channel: “I saw Ten Hag pull over Kobbie Mainoo after we scored and have a word in his ear tosay keep your discipline, be professional, and that’s great.”

Mainoo is only 18 and while he plays with an incredible maturity, Manchester United’s coaching staff want to help him through it. While he came off the bench away at Reading in the FA Cup last season, this was his first start in the competition.

Webber added: “He sort of glides around the pitch. He doesn’t have to run and get in top gear because he reads the game so well. He shows the quality that he has with his feet.”

Praise for Mainoo

Mainoo was picked out as one of Manchester United’s most impressive players on the night, with former Red Devils defender David May commending his performance.

May told MUTV’s Matchday Review: “Kobbie played well, he covered the midfield and did what he had to do. Very mature for his age.”

United will play against Newport County or Eastleigh away from home in the FA Cup‘s next round, with the two sides set to contest a replay later this month.

Erik ten Hag’s side will be strongly fancied to reach round five, and then the draw wil start to open up, with Arsenal already eliminated, and Tottenham and Manchester City set to face off in round four.
