Manchester United were at the wrong end of a strange decision when Diogo Dalot was shown a late red card.
This did not ultimately impact the result of the game, with Manchester United earning a 0-0 draw at Anfield.
One incident that could have had a dramatic effect was when the ball bounced up inside the box and hit Luke Shaw on the hand.
There was a brief VAR check but no decision was given and play was waved on, thankfully from a Manchester United point of view.
Manchester United ‘got away with one’
Luke Shaw’s hand was not outstretched and it would have been incredibly harsh if a penalty was given against Manchester United.
But given some of the very contentious decisions awarded against Manchester United this season and last, particularly in European competition, it would not have been surprising.
MUTV radio co-commentator David May said if it was the other way around, he would have been appealing for it.
May told the channel: “I think we got away with the handball from Luke. If that happened in the Liverpool penalty box, I’d be screaming.”
Another tough away game awaits
Manchester United have another tricky away game on Saturday night at West Ham, who have been in strong form lately.
United must play with the same defensive discipline, and also have a little luck. Even if the Luke Shaw decision was always tipped in United’s favour, it was one you could file under ‘we’ve seen them given’.
