MUTV duo rave about £42m Manchester United star’s performance in win v Nottingham Forest

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is beginning to show his best form after a shaky start to life at the club.

Andre Onana reached the Champions League final with Inter Milan last season, which made it really odd that he saved his worst performances for Manchester United in the same competition.

If anything, you would have expected him to struggle more domestically, but in the Premier League and in cup competitions, he has been performing well.

Last night featured another clean sheet for the goalkeeper, his 11th in all competitions for Manchester United this season.

Andre Onana praised

Andre Onana was solid in Manchester United’s win over Nottingham Forest, producing the type of solid performance you want from a goalkeeper.

Onana’s performance was praised on MUTV, with former academy players Wes Brown and John Curtis discussing how pleased they were with the way he stood up to the challenge, with Forest landing five shots on target.

Curtis said: “We saw him a lot with his hands rather than his feet. We see how composed he is when he comes out and starts instigating the play for us from the battle almost becoming like an additional central defender. But today he made some great stops from long range efforts, but some difficult ones.

“We saw them going through bodiesm which are always difficult for a goalkeeper.

“Deflections here and there could have made it really nasty for him but he dealt with it well.”

Wes Brown agreed, saying Onana’s performance was the type of display a centre-back would appreciate: “The shots that any team could shoot can get through and you just need the keeper to be solid, save it comfortably pick it up and today, he made some very, very important one as well.

“He’s done that now the last three or four games, you know, he’s been very good with his hands when it’s hard to save it just builds the confidence.”

Onana faces big test against City

Up next is Manchester City, who are in form after scoring six goals against Luton in midweek, with Erling Haaland netting five.

Onana played well in the first Manchester derby of the season, keeping the score down at Old Trafford, but not enough, conceding three in total, including a penalty.

United conceded six at The Etihad last season, and Erik ten Hag‘s side will need to produce a vastly improved display this coming weekend.

Onana is in good form, so United just need to give him a chance, and reduce the sheer volume of shots he is having to face each and every game.
