Manchester United are considering a move for Leicester’s James Maddison, report The Independent

Leicester reportedly want £60 million for the 22-year-old.

Maddison does not have the Galactico CV United have looked to in recent seasons. And that’s precisely why he would be an incredibly smart signing.

Maddison is a rising star, one who has been ludicrously overlooked by England this season, left in the under-21s this summer again.

The youngster has taken a convoluted route to the top, starring at Coventry City, joining Norwich City, loaned to Aberdeen, and then joining Leicester last summer.

He has risen to every challenge, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists in the Premier League this past season.

Upgrade

Maddison showed this season he can be an upgrade on Jesse Lingard, and at £60 million, while costly, it could turn out to be a solid investment.

He influenced big games last season for Leicester, providing assists against Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, with his side winning two of those three matches.

United could look to take a gamble on bringing in a player from abroad, but as seen with Fred, it’s a gamble.

Maddison feels like a surefire success, with Premier League experience, and a player who can star at Old Trafford for the best part of the next decade.

He might not be on a top five list of fans’ potential dream signings, but if United go for it, a move could be one of the most sensible the club have made for years.
