Charlton racked up more than 750 appearances for United as well as more than 100 England caps, with his long-range shooting ability becoming the stuff of legend.
Charlton’s influence goes far beyond United though, as summed up by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
The Spaniard told BBC Sport that even as a kid over in Spain, he was collecting trading cards of Charlton and saw videos of his playing days.
Arteta was fully aware of Charlton’s excellence and feels that he leaves an ‘incredible legacy’ from his United days.
Arteta also praised Charlton as a person, something that has been highlighted throughout all the tributes.
“I remember as a kid I was collecting cards and watching videos and saw what he meant for English football and world football,” said Arteta. “He is a big loss. He was a legend already and now he will be a legend forever and he leaves an incredible legacy, not only as a player but as a person as well,” he added.
