Michael Carrick’s defiant response to Stretford End’s Casemiro plea

Manchester United fans in the Stretford End have been singing about Casemiro staying for another year, but Michael Carrick has ruled out any reversal of the Brazilian’s upcoming departure.

On Monday night, Casemiro scored his ninth goal in the Premier League this season after just 11 minutes in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Brentford.

United doubled their lead in the first half through Benjamin Sesko, who sealed the victory despite Mathias Jensen pulling one goal back in the 87th minute.

The result means United are sitting third in the Premier League, with a three-point gap ahead of Liverpool and Aston Villa. It shows that Casemiro is focused on going out on a high rather than taking it easy ahead of the World Cup.

Michael Carrick rules out Casemiro U-turn

Casemiro was seen getting emotional at full-time as he walked towards the Stretford End.

United fans chanted about the veteran Brazil international staying at Old Trafford for another year following his impressive display against Brentford.

Kobbie Mainoo partnered with Casemiro as a battle unfolded in the middle of the pitch, but Carrick stressed in his post-match interview that there will be no U-turn on the decision to let the 34-year-old midfielder leave at the end of his contract.

“It’s pretty clear – from both sides it’s pretty clear the decision,” Carrick said, as quoted by The Guardian.

“It’s pretty clear, too, how much it means to him [playing for United], and probably the situation and the clarity of the decision have helped everything to be understandable for the supporters as well.

“Credit to him because he’s given absolutely everything and had some big moments for us, so all round it’s quite a nice direction for it to be taken.”

Casemiro stats against Brentford

It was another impressive display from Casemiro.

The departing midfield ace won 11 tackles, 16 duels and made nine clearances.

In doing so, Casemiro is the only player in the last 20 seasons to record all of those numbers in a single Premier League match.

It shows how well Casemiro read the game and stopped a lot of threats against a decent Brentford side.
