Michael Carrick raves about Manchester United signing Christian Eriksen

Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has spoken in glowing terms about Erik ten Hag’s second summer signing Christian Eriksen.

Having signed the 30-year-old as a free agent, the Denmark international already looks one of the bargain buys of the season.

United’s number 14 opted to sign a three-year deal with the Red Devils over extending his stay with former club Brentford.

Eriksen has started all eight of United’s games this season, and his influence and importance in Ten Hag’s team looks to be growing with every passing game.

The former Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan playmaker has maintained his impressive form during this month’s UEFA Nations League fixtures.

Eriksen scored a stunning long-range strike in Thursday’s defeat to Croatia while he created eight chances in last night’s 2-0 win against World Cup holders France.

Carrick, who played against Eriksen during the Dane’s time with Spurs, has heaped praise on the Scandinavian midfield maestro.

After making his Legends of the North charity match debut against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, United’s former assistant manager waxed lyrical about the 117-time Denmark international and lauded his ability and versatility to play anywhere.

Speaking to the club’s website, Carrick, who had a three game spell in caretaker charge last season, said: “I’m not surprised one bit [by Eriksen’s form]. I played against him a lot; I watched him a lot. I like him a lot.

“He’s a fantastic footballer. He’s clever, he’s smart.

“It almost doesn’t matter what position he plays. He can adapt. He’s just a clever, intelligent footballer with great quality.

“I was pleased when we signed him, and he’s not surprised me one bit. He’s a top player.”

Like Carrick, Eriksen looks to be United’s conductor of the orchestra and has the ability to control the tempo of games such is his calmness in possession and ability to spot passes that very few others can.
