Manchester United concludes the season at the American Express Stadium on Sunday, and Michael Carrick is plotting debuts for academy players.

With third place now secured, Manchester United head into the final weekend of the Premier League campaign with the luxury of being able to rotate.

Michael Carrick could therefore finally turn to the academy, after not having had the games to integrate them over the course of this season.

Multiple players are deserving of these opportunities, with two talents being lined up for debuts.

If you could only start ONE Man Utd academy player vs Brighton – WHO would you pick?

Manchester United planning to debut Godwill Kukonki and Jim Thwaites

With United’s campaign effectively over, the only thing fans are excited for this weekend is the potential academy involvement against Brighton.

Now, according to the Daily Mail, United are plotting two potential debuts.

With the academy season over, Carrick has a free pick of the talents he deems worthy of minutes, having watched them numerous times this season.

The report claims Godwill Kukonki and Jim Thwaites are the two under consideration for involvement at the Amex.

From the players yet to debut, these are the two most deserving and best performers in the academy this season.

Thwaites has already caught Carrick’s eye in midfield, while Kukonki is undeniable at the back.

Where will Jim Thwaites be in 12 months?

Jim Thwaites and Kobbie Mainoo could bring Michael Carrick’s vision to life

United have won a lot of games under Michael Carrick, but it hasn’t necessarily been done in a style that he will ideally want to use.

Carrick tried to name a more possession-heavy team against Sunderland, with Mason Mount unable to take his chance.

But Thwaites, alongside Kobbie Mainoo, is arguably the best technical midfield that United have right now, and it could see Carrick gain the control he wants in the game against Brighton.

A midfield completely Carrington made, giving Carrick’s ideal version of football life, and they have the defensive work rate to make this work.

Meanwhile, Kukonki is probably less likely to start considering Luke Shaw, who will be desperate to complete a full season of starts.
