The excitement surrounding Ruben Amorim’s start at Manchester United is at a fever pitch with a few days still to go before his debut in the dugout.

Ruben Amorim’s first Man Utd training session had a lot of learning and the fans are excited to finally see an identity on the pitch when the team takes to the field.

Amidst the excitement of the beginning, McKenna’s former coaching colleague at Man Utd and now the Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick has given his thoughts on Amorim’s Old Trafford move-

Carrick is no stranger to the hot seat of being a Man Utd manager, having managed the club in an interim capacity when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was relieved of his duties.

Before Ruud van Nistelrooy surpassed it in four games, Carrick had the highest winning percentage of any United manager ever after three games!

He won two and drew one and leveraged his years of learning under different managers to earn a head coach role at Middlesbrough where he has impressed greatly.

Carrick was recently asked about Amorim’s appointment to the seat he once occupied for three games and he said that it is a ‘big challenge’ but he remains hopeful.

He said: “It’s obviously a big challenge, incredible football club with huge expectations. It’s where you want to be in terms of testing yourself against the best and he’s there so I hope he does well.

“I’m obviously a supporter and my family are. We love the club so I really hope it works out. There are good players there, good people in the club, so hopefully he goes there and settles in really quickly.”

Assessing Ruben Amorim’s start at Man Utd

As Carrick said, the hope is that Amorim settles in quickly, and judging by the initial noises coming out of the club and by Amorim himself, he looks to be doing just that.

Players have been appreciative of Amorim’s training sessions and the international break has allowed him to get his feet under the table without the immediate pressure of preparing for a game.

Carrick’s view regarding the Man Utd squad is also echoed by Ineos, who think Amorim can improve the current Utd squad without a need for many reinforcements.

That provides a sense of clarity instead of panic among everyone that another rebuild is coming at a club that seems perpetually stuck in a vicious cycle.

On the pitch, Amorim has got a relatively forgiving run of fixtures to build some early momentum before the first marquee clash, away at Arsenal on December 4.

Of course, football matches are not played on paper so the team will still need to perform but United would start as favourites in every game until that December 4 fixture.

A wave of momentum, euphoria of the new manager, and an exciting direction. United’s season could look a lot different by the time that date rolls around.
