Amid all the exuberance of Manchester United announcing the club’s new manager today, there has been some quite serious news too of a negative nature.

BBC News report there has been a bomb threat at the home of Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.

Police have swept Maguire’s home and evacuated his family after the serious threat against him.

A spokesperson for Maguire told the BBC: “In the last 24 hours, Harry has received a serious threat to his family home.

“The safety of his family and those around him is obviously Harry’s number one priority. He will continue to prepare for this weekend’s fixture as normal and we will not be commenting in any further detail at this time.”

Unacceptable

Maguire is going through a tough time on the pitch at present, and there has been criticism of his performances.

But it is never acceptable for situations like this to happen, when a player ends up fearing for their family’s and their own safety.

Former Arsenal footballer Mesut Ozil, now of Fenerbahce, reacted to the shocking developments on social media and called for the situation to be taken seriously.

Maguire has two young children and understandably is putting the safety of his family first. You can never take too many precautions here.

Police are investigating the matter and currently no arrests have been made.
