Matthijs de Ligt has been impressed by Manchester United’s new signings this summer.

Manchester United have announced three new signings after a disastrous 2024/25 campaign that saw Ruben Amorim’s side lose the Europa League final to Tottenham and finish 15th in the Premier League.

Amorim will hope that his new additions help his side get better results on the pitch, with Ineos investing a lot of money in the team this summer.

Matheus Cunha arrived from Wolves a month before Bryan Mbeumo completed his transfer from Brentford, while Diego Leon joined the squad after a deal was agreed with Cerro Porteno in January.

United have since made progress on a deal to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as Amorim continues to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new season.

Matthijs de Ligt happy with Man Utd summer business

After welcoming three new faces to the squad so far this summer, hard work began in pre-season, with United playing four games without experiencing defeat.

The Red Devils took on Leeds, Bournemouth, West Ham and Everton and will wrap up the pre-season fixtures this weekend when Fiorentina visit Old Trafford.

One player happy with United’s business this summer is Matthijs de Ligt, who joined the club from Bayern Munich last year.

Speaking to ManUtd.com during the USA tour, De Ligt shared his thoughts on the new additions and said: “I think they have made a really good impression. Bryan [Mbeumo] has only been here a few days, so we can’t say too much about him, but he’s already scored some goals during training.

“I think we can be really happy with him. Matheus [Cunha] has been here for two weeks now and he’s training really well. It’s a new club and environment, but he’s already been chatting and making jokes with teammates.

“I think that’s a really good adaptation from him. Diego [Leon] is a little bit younger, but he is also a player with a lot of talent. He is really strong and physical. He comes from a different system, so tactically he has to learn a little bit, but all the physical and tactical abilities are with him to become a really good player.

“It’s been a really good window and hopefully they can help us as much as possible.”

It bodes well for United that the new signings are settling in quickly, although Mbeumo has had less time with his new teammates than Cunha and Leon.

Hopefully, they can all start the new competitive season strongly and continue to settle in their new surroundings at Carrington.

What De Ligt learned from playing against Cunha and Mbeumo

De Ligt played against Cunha and Mbeumo in the Premier League last season.

The pair scored 37 goals in the league between them and will be hoping to record the same tally in United shirts.

Speaking about playing against Cunha and Mbeumo, De Ligt provided further insight into United’s latest signings.

“I think Matheus is a really technical player, with Brazilian flair, really good with the ball and really fast,” he added. “I didn’t expect that. He scores goals and gives assists, so a really good addition.

“Bryan is more efficient; he just needs one action to go to his left foot, and he’ll score. I think this is one of the biggest qualities in football, the ability to score and I think he can really help us with that.”
