Manchester United return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with Brighton and Hove Albion visiting Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim is now in the midst of a home triple-header.

Manchester United turned in battling displays on the road against Liverpool and Arsenal but now have some home comforts.

The 3-1 win over Southampton on Thursday night wasn’t entirely convincing but United now have two more home games.

United host Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday before welcoming Rangers to Old Trafford on Thursday night.

Amorim will want to build some momentum in this home run and will be seeking a positive result against a dangerous Brighton side.

Matthijs de Ligt on Manchester United pressure

Amorim knows that he needs time and patience to really turn United around.

The reality is though that the pressure is always on around United and defeats will always be magnified.

Summer signing Matthijs de Ligt has now commented on this situation having played for some huge clubs in his career.

De Ligt started his career with arguably the biggest club in the Netherlands, emerging with Ajax.

The centre back moved on to Juventus and then Bayern Munich, two European powerhouses who expect to win their league title more often than not.

That pressure stands De Ligt in good stead at United but he has told The Mirror that the pressure around United is something completely different.

De Ligt feels that the pressure at United is a ‘worldwide’ phenomenon, even bigger than the clubs he has represented in the past.

De Ligt believes that younger players may struggle with that but urged the United fans to get behind the team moving forward.

“It’s a really big club, an amazing club – and it’s a lot of pressure, I have to say,” said De Ligt.

“I’ve played for several big clubs and the pressure is always high. But the feeling you get here is that the pressure is maybe worldwide – and it’s the most I’ve experienced so far.

“It’s not easy to handle that – particularly for young players. But I’ve had some experience of other big clubs so maybe in that sense it could be a little bit easier for me.

“I imagine that for other players it might be a little more difficult. That’s why it’s so important we get the crowd behind us – just to get the confidence in to all the players,” he added.

Matthijs de Ligt catching the eye

De Ligt took a real gamble by signing for United.

Once a wonderkid at Ajax, De Ligt didn’t quite live up to his billing with Juventus or Bayern.

De Ligt then decided to join United and reunite with his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, a man whose position seemed less than secure heading into the season.

There was a real chance of Ten Hag being sacked and De Ligt not being wanted under the new United manager.

That would have been a nightmare for De Ligt but Amorim appears to have been impressed so far.

De Ligt has shown a willingness to throw his body on the line whilst his long speed to get back and protect the United goal has been a welcome bonus.

We need to see more from De Ligt moving forward but he is actually playing well under Amorim and may be the most secure of Amorim’s centre backs so far.
