Matheus Cunha returned to the Manchester United line-up and played the full 90 minutes in the victory over Liverpool.
Ruben Amorim made some bold selection calls for Manchester United’s trip to Anfield, including dropping Benjamin Sesko in favour of Matheus Cunha.
For the first time in nearly a decade, United won at Anfield, with Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire scoring in a monumental 2-1 victory.
Summer signing Matheus Cunha is yet to score or assist for the Red Devils, but his performance at Anfield was nothing short of sublime.
Rio Ferdinand said Cunha is becoming “unplayable”, and his display on Merseyside will certainly boost his confidence to new levels.

Matheus Cunha sends message after beating Liverpool
Cunha was an ‘unsung hero’ vs Liverpool – his elite ball-carrying and ability to carry United up the pitch proved to be crucial, particularly in the second half.
After the full-time whistle, Cunha joined in with United’s chaotic celebrations, and he raced to social media to send a message to his supporters.
“All about hard work and passion, what a team,” read Cunha’s post.
In the replies of the post, United teammate Joshua Zirkzee was quick to respond with “Crackkk”, while other teammates such as Leny Yoro, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo all liked the social media post.
Matheus Cunha can build on Liverpool display
Despite an injury-hit start to his United career, Cunha can be considered a transfer success based on his start at the club this season.
The Brazilian’s performances offer so much more than just goals or assists. His all-round play and ability on the ball makes him a huge asset for United.
It is only a matter of time until Cunha finds the back of the net, but frankly, Amorim will be asking him for more of the same. Against Liverpool, his protection of the ball and ability to beat a player was worth as much as a goal.
With upcoming games against Brighton and Nottingham Forest, Cunha will hope to build some momentum in United’s starting XI, although it seems he faces fierce competition from the likes of Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko for a spot.
