Matheus Cunha gave his verdict on Manchester United’s slow start to the season, after picking up just seven points from six games following a defeat against Brentford on Saturday.
Manchester United lost 3-1 against Brentford on Saturday as Ruben Amorim missed out on an opportunity to win back-to-back games in the Premier League for the first time.
The Red Devils were 2-0 down following a brace from Igor Thiago, but Benjamin Sesko pulled one back before the break to open his account for the club.
Amorim’s side failed to get back into the game after Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty in the 75th minute. Matters were made worse in stoppage time, as Mathias Jensen made it 3-1 for Keith Andrews’ men.
The attacking players had to feed on scraps against Brentford, and it never helps when your star player misses a spot kick.

Matheus Cunha demands improvement after Brentford defeat
Despite only joining United in the summer, Cunha didn’t hold back with his post-match assessment at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Cunha returned to the starting line-up against Brentford, and it was the first time United fans got to see the Brazilian in the same XI as fellow new signings Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo.
While it was a relief to see Sesko score his first goal for United, our new attacking players inevitably need more games together to work on their chemistry. Nor are they helped by United’s non-existent midfield most weeks.
Speaking to MUTV after the match, Cunha sounded keen to get back on the training pitch to ‘improve’. That is the keyword he has urged his teammates to use until they get better results on the pitch.
“Of course, we need to go there [Carrington] and to do everything we can,” Cunha said.
“Improve, improve, improve – this is the word, I think. We need to use it, we need to be focused and to have big character right now.
“It’s like I say, how important it is to fight for the shirt and winning the games.”
Cunha stats vs Brentford
Cunha played the entire match after returning to the United line-up.
While it wasn’t one of Cunha’s best performances, his presence was felt in the final third, and he always wanted to take the ball forward.
