Manchester United loanee Matej Kovar says he expects a decision on his future ‘in days’ amid a successful season for Sparta Prague.

Matej Kovar is celebrating winning the Czech title with Sparta Prague after a strong season on loan with the club.

Czech outlet iSport recently reported that the loan spell could be extended for a further year, and Kovar would be keen for this to materialise.

Speaking to Sport.cz, Kovar has now said: “I hope so. It should be certain in a few days, they have to make a decision, but as far as I have news, I should continue with the loan at Sparta. It’s on the right track.”

Matej Kovar season a success

Matej Kovar has been a big success at Sparta Prague to help them win the title. But this doesn’t guarantee a Champions League group stage place.

They must go through the qualifying round, and Kovar is keen to play a part if he re-signs.

He said: “Considering how we were able to dominate the field at the beginning of the spring, there is definitely a chance. I really believe that with this team we will get to the Champions League.”

Kovar added that moving on loan to a club in his homeland was not his first choice.

He explained: “Pretty crazy. I knew about Sparta’s interest before the season, but I preferred a loan in England. For some reason it didn’t work for me.”

After previous spells on loan at Swindon Town and Burton Albion, the 23-year-old is glad it all worked out.

He said: “It’s a dream come true for me. The last two years I have been in England on loan in the third league, rather at the opposite pole of the table. Sparta certainly quickly grew to my heart.”

Kovar is due to play in the under-21 European Championships in June. A decision on his future may be taken before then.

Manchester United could cash in, or extend his loan. Or Erik ten Hag could insist he comes back to he can assess him first hand.

If Kovar is right, then a decision could be taken imminently, one way or another.
