Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount promises the best is yet to come after a tricky debut against Wolves.
Erik ten Hag said after Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Wolves that he was happy with Mason Mount‘s first competitive match for the club.
But there were not many observers who would agree, and it wasn’t really Mount’s fault, it was Ten Hag’s.
Ten Hag deployed Mount in an ultra-attacking role high up the field with Bruno Fernandes, and Wolves packed the central areas and took advantage of the wide open spaces in behind.
Mount did not see enough possession and as a result, his debut showed there was a lot to work on.

Mason Mount promises better days ahead
Erik ten Hag will have a re-think over how to set Manchester United up against Tottenham this weekend, and that could involve playing Mount out wide.
Mount’s brother even launched a passionate defence of the former Chelsea star after he came in for criticism on social media following his debut.
MORE UNITED STORIES
Now Mount himself has had his say. He sent a message out on Instagram promising the best is yet to come. His message wrote: “Just getting started, thanks for your support Old Trafford!”
Bruno Fernandes shows support
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes showed his support for Mason Mount, with a message in response.
The Portugal midfielder’s message read: “Step by step 💪🏼”

It is worth noting that Bruno Fernandes’ debut was at home to Wolves, a drab 0-0 draw in February 2020. At least United won this one 1-0.
Fernandes has kicked on and made his transfer fee look like a bargain. There is clearly plenty of time for Mount to do the same.
