Manchester United have confirmed Mason Mount will wear the number seven shirt.

The club posted a photo of the former Chelsea midfielder adorning the iconic number.

It had been speculated that young teammate Alejandro Garnacho would get the number seven shirt.

Garnacho’s current number 49 shirt was not available for name and number printing on the club’s kit launch last week.

The teenager’s meteoric rise and admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo would have seen him embrace the challenge of wearing the shirt once also made famous by George Best, Bryan Robson and David Beckham.

Garnacho responded to a social media post of the news by ‘liking’ the news.

But this may also take a little pressure off the youngster. It’s over to Mason Mount now.

The Champions League winner is clearly trusted by manager Erik ten Hag, and the spotlight will be on him to make a fast start.
