Manchester United, being one of the biggest clubs in the world, naturally have an abundance of academy talent that unfortunately just do not make it at Old Trafford.
But that isn’t to say they don’t make it elsewhere. Carrington’s stars of the past are dotted around the world, with many now senior figures for their sides.
This includes the likes of Angel Gomes and Teden Mengi – who are both thriving respectively in Ligue 1 and the Premier League.
They both, alongside other notable ex-Red Devils, sent messages to a former Manchester United academy talent – who has just taken the next big step in his career at a Championship side.

Di’Shon Bernard extends Sheffield Wednesday stay
Di’Shon Bernard never made it at United, but it appears he’s found a home just East of Manchester – with the young centre-back extending his stay at Sheffield Wednesday.
It was confirmed last Thursday that the 23-year-old had committed his future to Hillsborough, having extended his contract for an undisclosed amount of time after signing on a permanent from Old Trafford last season on a one year deal.
Bernard was particularly impressive in his inaugural season for the Owls, racking up 32 matches for the Championship outfit. It was no surprise they extended his stay.
The Jamaica international has found success after what was a dissapointing United career. He joined the academy at the age of 16, having previously been at Chelsea.
He made one senior appearance at United in a Europa League match against Astana on the 28th of November 2019. However, he scored an own goal as Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side lost 2–1.
The decision was made in 2023 to let Bernard’s contract run out, and he officially left the Red Devils after six years on the 30th of June of that year.
Ex-Manchester United stars congratulate Di’Shon Bernard
Bernard was a popular figure during his time at Carrington, which has been reflected in a plethora of messages obtained from old United academy stars on his latest Instagram post.
The defender took to the social media platform to announce he was staying in Sheffield, with the image of him donning the new Wednesday jersey accompanied by the caption, ‘Time to unpack the suitcases…’.
Greenwood, who has just completed his move to Marseille, was first to respond, with ‘Let’s go,’ accompanied with a love heart.

Gomes also paid tribute, with his message reading ‘congrats my brudda,’ whilst Willy Kambwala who is another recent United departee, stated ‘Yes brother’.

Among the other responses were Mengi, Ethan Galbraith, Radek Vitek, and Bernard’s new Sheffield Wednesday teammate, Charlie McNeill.
Evidently a well liked figure, who still has a bright future ahead of him. We wish Bernard all the best as he continues his journey at Hillsborough.
