Slovakia youth international Martin Svidersky has announced he has signed with Spanish side Almeria.

The midfielder had announced his departure from Manchester United on Instagram last month, even though the club’s official website confirmed he had been offered a new contract.

Svidersky preferred to try his luck in Spain and becomes the third player to quit the Red Devils for Almeria in three seasons.

Svidersky follows Largie Ramazani who quit United for Almeria in 2020, and Arnau Puigmal, who did the same in 2021.

Both players played a role as Almeria clinched promotion to La Liga back in May, where they will face the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona next season.

Former United youth coach Nicky Butt had wished Svidersky well after he announced his decision to leave the club.

Svidersky told Slovakian outlet Sportnet last month that he was set to move to a Spanish club.

He said: “Spain came to me as the best option for my development. It is an opportunity to play men’s football and get more chances.”

The move makes some sense. He has seen the opportunities given to both Ramazani and Puigmal, and he will have been realistic enough to know that he probably was not going to make it at Manchester United.

If he stayed, he would likely have been sent out on loan, and often this is simply delaying the inevitable.

Almeria’s first fixture of the La Liga season is on August 14 at home to Real Madrid. That would be an incredible fixture for Svidersky to make his debut.
