Dubravka thrilled to compete with De Gea

Dubravka explained his satisfaction at making the move to Manchester United, as a sign of how he has progressed with his career.

He said: “I read the saying ‘Train and make your idol one day your competition.’

“It’s nice that when I was still watching him in the Czech Republic, I had him as a role model, and now I share a dressing room with him.”

Dubravka has certainly achieved the first part of his goal, getting to a club as big as Manchester United to compete with De Gea.

The second step is to make a good job of it, and he only has one year to do so, signing on loan for the season.

In 2023, United’s goalkeeper situation looks unclear, with De Gea’s contract set to expire and Dean Henderson returning from loan. Dubravka will be doing his very best to put himself in the mix.

Back in 2013 when De Gea was lifting the Premier League title with Manchester United, Dubravka was starting his career with his first club Zilina.

After subsequent moves to Esbjerg, Slovan Liberec, Sparta Prague, and Newcastle United, Dubravka is now on the biggest stage of all at Manchester United, waiting patiently for his opportunity.
