Marcus Rashford has welcomed Lisandro Martinez, who has become Erik ten Hag’s third Manchester United signing, to the club.

The Argentina international will be reunited with his former Ajax manager and joins Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen as new summer signings for the Red Devils.

Ten Hag signed the versatile left footer from Argentinian side Defensa in July 2019 and the pair won four trophies together, including two Eredivisie titles.

Like Eriksen and Cristiano Ronaldo, Martinez isn’t expected to join United’s pre-season tour in Australia and will instead work at Carrington once his signing is completed.

The 24-year-old could make his Manchester United debut against Atletico Madrid in Oslo, Norway, on Saturday, 30 July where he could pit his wits against his fellow countryman Diego Simeone.

Martinez, who has the versatility to play left-back, centre-back or holding midfield, has been tipped to predominantly play in midfield by Reds legend Rio Ferdinand.

The seven-time Argentina international played 120 times under Ten Hag for the Amsterdam giants and he was named Ajax’s Player of the Year at the end of the season.

The South American has been welcomed to Manchester United by Marcus Rashford who will no doubt be one of the key personnel in helping Martinez settle into his new surroundings.

United’s number ten took to Twitter to welcome the club’s new signing.

Manchester United’s Premier League campaign kicks off in three weeks time against Brighton & Hove Albion and Ten Hag’s rebuild looks to be taking shape.

With Martinez joining Malacia and Eriksen as new signings, the focus will likely switch to signing Ten Hag’s primary target Frenkie de Jong.
