Marcus Rashford told a pre-match press conference he has been making the most of a full summer to refocus.
Rashford explained he has felt ‘a bit unnatural’ to have so much time off – and he was able to use it in a positive manner.
The Manchester United star explained: “I think it’s been a bit unnatural for me to have such a long break in the summer, I had just under four weeks. So, I had a long break physically and mentally as well.
“So, it’s an opportunity to refresh and get ready to go again. It’s always the case every season, whether you win or lose, so I just used that opportunity to do what I’ve always done and just refocus.”

Marcus Rashford says he has been able to ‘refocus’
Rashford’s poor form last season saw him lose his place in the Manchester United team, and subsequently England too.
This meant he was able to sit out the summer international fixtures and return early for pre-season start on June 27, which he says has worked in his favour.
Rashford explained: “I already feel a lot better than usual when you go away for the internationals and come back midway through the pre-season. So, like I said, it’s important for me to get a fresh start and I’ve been given that opportunity. I feel fresh and I feel ready.”

The 24-year-old was a bright spark in Manchester United’s pre-season opener, looking energetic and direct, helping the team to a 4-0 victory over Liverpool.
It will take a lot more than 45 minutes in a friendly to show Rashford has turned it around, but it was a positive sign all the same.
Rashford is also looking to earn a new contract extension at United, and the break this summer appears to have come at a perfect time for him to reset.
