The most high-profile exit from Manchester United developed extremely quickly, and Marcus Rashford is now a Barcelona player.

Joining on an initial loan deal, Marcus Rashford has got the move of his dreams, while Man Utd will just be thankful they don’t have to pay his wages anymore.

Barcelona are likely to make it permanent next season as well, and the expectations from Rashford are already sky-high in certain circles.

That is also because the player himself has set tall standards before even kicking a ball for his new club, making a promise that will have Man Utd fans looking wistfully at his time at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford makes promise at Barcelona

It is no secret that this is the move Rashford had been holding out for the longest time, even accepting in his introductory press conference that his Aston Villa loan in January was the last resort.

Still, he impressed at Aston Villa mainly because he just needed a change of scenery. Now that his new scenario is also his dream club, expectations are rising.

His time at Man Utd will be remembered as bittersweet because it began well, but by the end, accusations of unprofessionalism and feverish media scrutiny turned it all sour.

Ruben Amorim was the one who drew the line in the sand, talking about the player’s reported lack of effort in training and freezing him out.

Rashford’s latest promise at Barcelona will be looked at with more than a hint of irony at Carrington for the same reason.

The Man Utd academy product promised that Barcelona fans can expect ‘maximum effort and dedication’ during matches and in training.

He said: “The fans can expect my maximum effort and dedication. I will give everything in every match and training session to help the team achieve our goals.”

Marcus Rashford is primed for a successful time at Barcelona

Rashford’s quality has never been in question. After all, this is the player who had nearly 40 goal involvements in Erik ten Hag’s debut season, and regularly showed world-class glimpses under previous managers.

The problem has always been that somewhere along the way, he fell out of love with Man Utd, and it led to him being trapped in a vicious cycle.

Therefore, when Rashford promises Barcelona fans perfect effort and dedication, it is not just lip service that every player does upon joining.

Expect Rashford to live up to those claims and put in a sterling season, especially in 2025/26, since he will want to convince Barcelona to trigger his buy option.

It is not as simple as Man Utd being the problem in Rashford’s case. Neither party helped the other by taking a step forward, and a parting of the ways was the best scenario.

However, that doesn’t mean Man Utd fans can’t feel miffed at Rashford working his socks off for another team after years of accusations that he didn’t do the same at Old Trafford.
