FIFA 23 has been released and Manchester United’s players are not just in the game – they are playing it already.

As with every single year, the player ratings become a real talking point, with players graded based on their current ability and recent performance, in the judgement of EA Sports.

Manchester United signed six new players this summer, so using FIFA 23’s rating system, we took a look at how many of them fit into the club’s strongest XI on the game.

There are a few discrepancies with FIFA 23’s ratings and Erik ten Hag’s current preferred Manchester United XI.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s FIFA rating

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the highest rated players on FIFA 23, but his rating has taken a dip over the past 12 months. He is now rated at 90, having been at 91 for FIFA 22. His peak on previous games was 94.

The highest rating on FIFA 23 is shared by five players; Karim Benzema, Kevin de Bruyne, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski, who share a rating of 91.

Ronaldo’s 90 rating is the same as Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, and one higher than Neymar on 89.

Manchester United’s strongest XI on FIFA 23

Ronaldo is Manchester United’s highest ranked striker and so takes the centre-forward role in United’s 4-3-3 formation, with no place for current top scorer Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial.

This has not quite been evident for United this season, with Ronaldo selected to start only one out of six Premier League games.

The strongest forward to complete the front three are Jadon Sancho (84) and Antony (82). Rashford has seen a drop in rating from 85 to 81 over the past year.

New signings Casemiro and Christian Eriksen (82) immediately improve United’s midfield options on the game. Casemiro is rated as 89, one of the highest ranked players on the game. Bruno Fernandes (86) completes United’s midfield.

The strongest United defence does not quite match up with how Ten Hag sees it. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is rated at 80, above Diogo Dalot (78), while Luke Shaw (80) is also one higher than Tyrell Malacia (79) despite seeing his rating dip over the past 12 months.

At centre-back Raphael Varane (84) is United’s best defender. Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire share the same rating at 81 – but we have opted for Martinez due to Maguire’s extremely low pace of 50, compared to the Argentine’s 71.

David de Gea remains one of the game’s highest rated goalkeepers at 87, while Martin Dubravka is a solid back-up at 80.
