Manchester United’s next five games: Bouncing back from Liverpool defeat

Manchester United were thrashed 7-0 by Liverpool at Anfield to suffer a truly humiliating defeat.

But we don’t want to dwell on that. This is all about moving on. Let’s look forward towards the team’s non-stop fixture list and what’s next.

Below are Manchester United’s next five fixtures…

v Real Betis, Thursday March 9, 8pm, home, Europa League

Manchester United are home for the first leg of the Europa League last 16 tie. This will be a challenging match-up, with the Spanish side going strong in La Liga. They drew 0-0 with Real Madrid tonight and will be hard to break down.

v Southampton, Sunday March 12, 2pm, home, Premier League

Another home fixture, Manchester United face Premier League’s 19th placed side Southampton next Sunday. This might be the best way to try to recover from the Liverpool loss, providing we can rack up an easy confidence lifting victory.

v Real Betis, Thursday March 16, 5.45pm, away, Europa League

The difficulty of this fixture will be determined by the result in the home leg at Old Trafford. Win easily in the first leg and this second leg could be a formality. But we don’t expect United to do anything the easy way.

v Fulham, Sunday March 19, 4.30pm, home, FA Cup

The previously scheduled league game away at Brighton on this weekend was postponed to make way for this FA Cup quarter-final. This is the final fixture before the international break, with United holding home advantage.

v Newcastle, Sunday April 2, 4.30pm, away, Premier League

The first game back after the international break is going to be a tough one, away at a revenge-seeking Newcastle, who will still be stung after their FA Cup loss.

The team enter this five game stretch still in the FA Cup and Europa League, and healthily placed in the Premier League. Hopefully we emerge from it in a similar position.
