Erik ten Hag‘s Manchester United will be looking to secure progress to the Carabao Cup semi-finals by beating League One side Charlton Athletic.

The Red Devils welcome the Addicks to Old Trafford tonight for the last-eight tie.

Having been knocked out by West Ham United in the Carabao Cup third-round last season, United will be hoping to reach the Carabao Cup last-four for the first time since the 2020-21 campaign.

United haven’t won the competition since 2017 when Jose Mourinho was at the helm.

The twenty-time league champions set up a semi-final showdown with fierce rivals Manchester City in January 2021 having beat Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park in December 2020.

Ahead of tonight’s clash against Charlton, United in Focus takes a look at Manchester United’s last Carabao Cup quarter-final XI.

Manchester United’s last Carabao Cup quarter-final XI

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United beat Carlo Ancelotti’s Toffees 2-0 on Merseyside to advance to the last-four of the Carabao Cup 2020-21 .

Late goals from Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial secured United’s progress.

United’s starting XI against Everton was: Henderson, Tuanzebe, Bailly, Maguire, Telles, Pogba, Matic, Fernandes, Greenwood, Van de Beek, Cavani.

With Bruno Fernandes suspended and Donny van de Beek out injured for tonight’s clash against Charlton, Harry Maguire is likely the only player to have started against Everton to be included in tonight’s starting line-up against the Londoners.

It’s highly unlikely that Ten Hag will throw Axel Tuanzebe into the starting line-up given the former England Under-21 international is yet to feature this season having been out injured.

Dean Henderson, Eric Bailly and Alex Telles are all spending the 2022-23 campaign out on loan while Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Cavani left the club in the summer as free agents.

Mason Greenwood, who continues not to be considered for selection, has been given a provisional trial date of November 27, 2023.

The 21-year-old was arrested on January 31 on suspicion of rape and assault, and further arrested on February 1 on suspicion of sexual assault and making threats to kill.
