Manchester United's key focus is signing Casemiro before window closes

Manchester United’s key focus is signing Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro before the transfer window closes, according to The Athletic.

With two weeks of the summer market remaining, Erik ten Hag‘s focus has reportedly switched to landing the 30-year-old Brazilian.

Throughout the window, the Manchester United hierarchy have unsuccessfully pursued the signature of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong who was Ten Hag’s priority target.

But with the 52-year-old seemingly not being able to reunite with the Netherlands midfielder who he managed at Ajax, Casemiro has become United’s key focus.

Casemiro played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane at Madrid, and plays with Manchester United midfielder Fred at national team level.

The former Sau Paulo man has won the Champions League five times during his stay with Los Blancos, and he would certainly improve a Manchester United midfield that is in desperate need of quality and a dominating anchor man.

The Athletic’s report states: “A deal between the two clubs is progressing.

“It is thought Casemiro has given positive indications of his desire to join United, who are willing to make the 30-year-old one of their top earners.

“United are known to be attracted to Casemiro’s character and professionalism, as well as his elite pedigree as a defensive midfielder.

“He is said to see a huge professional challenge in adding the Premier League to his already glittering personal resume.”

Journalist Andy Mitten has written in the National that United have offered the 30-year-old a four-year deal to come to Old Trafford.

The fact that Casemiro is driven by winning the Premier League speaks a lot about his winning mentality and character.

He’s the type of personality that Ten Hag needs in the dressing room – an army general who will whip the rest of our underperforming charges into shape and lead by example.
