Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Old Trafford last night in what was our best performance under the tenure of Erik ten Hag.

Second half goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes gave the Red Devils a much-deserved three points against Antonio Conte’s Spurs side.

Here are Manchester United’s four best players from a dominant performance against the north Londoners.

The former Porto man, like his compatriot Fernandes, was in danger of missing Saturday’s clash against Chelsea through suspension, if he picked up a yellow card against the Lilywhites.

But United’s number 20 didn’t put a foot wrong against a talented Tottenham side, and he dominated the battle against Ivan Perisic.

The Croatian, who has won the Champions League and has played in a World Cup final, wasn’t given a sniff by Dalot and Tottenham’s number 14 looked at a loss when trying to get the better of the in-form Portuguese.

Dalot was faultless in all aspects of his game, and he remains the only Manchester United outfield player to have started every game under Ten Hag.

Lisandro Martinez

The Argentine and Raphael Varane are building quite the partnership at Old Trafford, and their respected strengths very much compliment one and other.

Martinez is very much an on the front foot defender who relishes the physical tussles while the Frenchman is a calming assured presence who possesses the speed to cover the South American.

The former Ajax man dominated England captain Harry Kane and he didn’t give Spurs’ talisman a chance to settle or breath when the ball was played into him.

If Martinez and Varane can stay fit for the duration of the season, then Manchester United are going to stand a far better chance of winning football matches on a consistent basis.

Fred

Despite Christian Eriksen being fit enough to take a place on the bench and Scott McTominay being available after serving a one-game suspension against Newcastle United, Ten Hag kept faith with our number 17.

Playing alongside fellow Brazilian Casemiro, the Selecao duo dominated Spurs and Conte’s men couldn’t handle the constant barrage and intensity of which United pressed, hassled and harried.

Ten Hag has frequently lauded Fred’s qualities specifically in the counter press, and the former Shakhtar Donetsk man produced one of his best performances against the Lilywhites.

It was the 29-year-old’s heavily deflected goal just after half-time which gave the twenty-time league champions a much-deserved lead.

Bruno Fernandes

Not that he needed to remind the footballing world of the world class qualities he possesses, but Fernandes produced a masterclass against Spurs.

United’s number eight created nine chances at the Theatre of Dreams, the most by a player in the Premier League this season.

In fact, the nine chances he carved out was the most overall in the competition since Fernandes himself in September 2021 (10 v Aston Villa), according to Opta.

With both him and Ten Hag asked questions about his lack of goals this season prior to last night’s clash, United’s Portuguese Magnifico produced an emphatic response with a stunning curling effort past Hugo Lloris.
