Manchester United's Alex Telles hints at making Sevilla move permanent
Manchester United left-back Alex Telles has hinted that he would be willing to move to Sevilla on a permanent deal following his loan spell.
The 29-year-old completed a season-long loan move to the La Liga giants on Thursday.
Erik ten Hag sanctioned the departure of the six-time Brazil international following the arrival of Tyrell Malacia who will compete with Luke Shaw for the left-back spot.
The Red Devils paid £13.6m to sign Telles from Porto in October 2020 and the Brazilian has made 50 appearances for the club, scoring one goal, which came in last season’s Champions League group stage clash against Villarreal at Old Trafford.
Alex Telles hints at making Sevilla move permanent
Just like Anthony Martial who joined Julen Lopetegui’s side on loan in January, the Los Nervionenses do not have a clause inserted in the deal which could see United’s number 27 join the Champions League side on a permanent deal.
However, like the Frenchman, Telles hasn’t ruled out the possibility of moving to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium permanently.
Speaking via MARCA, the South American who made his Sevilla debut on Saturday in the Antonio Puerta Trophy, said he “didn’t think twice” about making the move to Nervion.
Initially Telles claimed he’s only focused on the year ahead with Sevilla: “In life we think step by step. I’m at Sevilla, thinking about this season, a very important year not only for the club, for the players as well.
“The future depends on now. I am here to give my best, with a lot of passion and we will see the future.”
But when asked whether he could follow in the footsteps of former Brazilian stars Luis Fabiano and Dani Alves who became legends at Sevilla, Telles seemed more open minded to extending his stay in Spain.
Sevilla’s new number three added: “Being at Sevilla my reference is the Brazilians who have passed through here. I have been in the museum with Monchi and the leaders and I saw Luis Fabiano, Dani (Alves), and I want to be there too.
“They are my reference to follow the same path. Who knows if I can stay two or three years and leave a good message to the fans.”
Telles, who confirmed that he spoke with Martial prior to making the move, will be targeting a place in Lopetegui’s starting line-up for Sevilla’s La Liga opener away to Osasuna on Friday night.
