Manchester United youngster hoping for ‘electric’ World Cup play-off final

Wales international Dylan Levitt would love to face Scotland in the World Cup play-off final with a spot in Qatar on the line.

Robert Page’s Welsh side host Austria tomorrow night at the Cardiff City Stadium, but the winners of that tie will have to wait until June to see who they will play in the final with the Scotland and Ukraine clash being put back.

But the Manchester United youngster, who is currently in the midst of a season-long loan north of the border with Dundee United, would relish a Home Nations final on home turf.

The 21-year-old, who has been in fine form the Tangerines this season, told the Scottish Daily Express: “It would be a massive moment if Wales play Scotland in the World Cup play-offs.

“It would be a great occasion to be involved in, especially with it being down in Cardiff where the atmosphere would be electric.

“That’s a smaller stadium, the fans are very close to the pitch and I’m sure Scotland would bring a big crowd down with them too.

“I have played there before, it’s really good and in the big games our national anthem is amazing.

“It would be a great game, we have had a great run of being in tournaments and were in the Euros last summer.”

However, the midfielder isn’t overlooking the Austrians in Wales’ quest to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1958.

Levitt is well aware that Scotland and Wales are both “desperate” to qualify for another major international tournament following their participation in last summer’s European Championships, but he isn’t getting ahead of himself.

The ten-time Welsh international added: “Both teams will be desperate to get through and go to the World Cup – but we have to get through the first games first.”

The Manchester United academy graduate who has thrived in Tam Courts’ Dundee United side knows what to expect at Tannadice if Wales and Scotland are to face off.

Dundee United’s number 19 joked: “If it does end up the two teams meeting, I’m sure the lads at United will be getting stuck in about me a fair bit.

“I can handle the grief though, that won’t be a problem for me. Right now I have just been focusing on Wales and the international stuff.”
