Manchester United’s youngsters have been leading the way recently and now Kobbie Mainoo’s crowning moment has been lauded.

Carrington has a long and proud history of developing absolute stars who go on to thrive in the Manchester United first team.

This season has seen this once again become the case with Erik ten Hag‘s two most pivotal players during a recent burst of form being academy graduates.

Alejandro Garnacho has been tearing it up on the right, performing better than the two big-money players – Antony and Jadon Sancho United signed to play right-wing.

Meanwhile, in the centre of the park, Kobbie Mainoo has been establishing himself not only as a start but as one of the league’s best midfielders as he awaits his first England call-up.

Now, his defining moment to date has been highlighted as a moment that would make the greatest of all time proud.

Paul Merson drops verdict on super Kobbie Mainoo

Writing in his weekly predictions column on Sports Keeda, Paul Merson has been discussing the wonderful United No. 37, Mainoo.

“Kobbie Mainoo’s emergence has been a bright spark for Manchester United. The lad was a bit nervous when he first came into the team, but he has really imposed himself in recent weeks and looks like a top-class talent.”

In conclusion, Merson added that the goal which Mainoo scored against Wolves was one that even two of the greats would be proud of.

“The goal he scored the other day was absolutely amazing – if Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo had scored such a goal, you wouldn’t hear the end of it.”

The goal was an absolute beauty – with Merson’s words being high praise for the exceptional talent with any comparison to the two greatest talents of this generation being welcomed.

To score a goal like that under such pressure in the dying moments to win the game showcases how level-headed he is which could prove just as important as his ability throughout his career.

He will be hoping to have yet another successful afternoon on Sunday when Manchester United take on Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Merson predicts Manchester United vs Aston Villa

In Merson’s piece he also actually predicted the game, in which he admitted he feels United will probably have too much for Villa, although settled on a draw.

“Manchester United, on the other hand, have so much pace on the counterattack and are feeling good again, so I can’t see Villa dealing with their threat.

“I usually never fancy Manchester United away from home, but I think Villa have been sussed out at home in recent weeks, so I’m going for a 2-2 draw. However, if I had to pick a winner, I would go for Manchester United.”

A 2-2 draw wouldn’t be the worst result in the world, however with such momentum built a win is completely possible and Ten Hag should do everything he can to take three points.

With talents like Mainoo and Garnacho, United are already at an advantage anyway.
