Manchester United youngster Godwill Kukonki has options on the table to launch an international career.

Godwill Kukonki was a surprise inclusion in Manchester United’s first-team squad against Arsenal on December 4, and Ruben Amorim made it clear the youngster had impressed him.

Kukonki only celebrated his 17th birthday on Thursday, which means he has plenty of time to make a greater impression on United’s head coach.

The young centre-back has since been named on the bench for Premier League games against Newcastle and Southampton, but he has yet to make a first-team debut.

Kukonki is yet another example of the talent that is being produced in United’s academy.

It bodes well that Amorim immediately spotted a youngster he rates and that at such a young age, this is a player who possesses the technical and physical qualities required for senior football.

Kukonki is a naturally left-footed defender like United’s new signing Ayden Heaven.

Congo approach Godwill Kukonki

It turns out Kukonki, who was born in England, will have more than one option when it comes to the international stage.

According to the Manchester Evening News, DR Congo’s national team representatives have issued a proposal to Kukonki about his international future.

Kukonki has yet to be called up to an England youth squad, but the FA will be made aware of Congo’s proposal to the exciting youngster.

The report adds that Amorim assessed academy youngsters in his first training session in November and Kukonki was the only prospect who made an impression on the Portuguese coach.

Kukonki chase proves youngster is highly rated

With Congo trying to secure Kukonki before it’s too late, this shows how highly rated he is already.

Ineos are trying to bring the best young talent to Manchester United as seen with deals for Leny Yoro, Chido Obi and Patrick Dorgu.

The more players we can bring through the academy the better because it means less money will need to be spent on transfers. It’s always beneficial to produce your own talent and it’s a popular tradition at United ever since the Busby Babes.

Kukonki will hope to made his United debut this season but he may need to wait until next summer to prove himself in pre-season.
