Manchester United told move for Victor Osimhen would cost £100m

Manchester United are not willing to accept Napoli’s eye-watering price tag for star striker Victor Osimhen.

The Reds have been keeping a close eye on African striker with a summer bid potentially being submitted.

According to the Daily Star, interim boss Ralf Rangnick has been told to provide the club’s chief executive Richard Arnold with a shortlist of potential replacements for Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.

Cavani is expected to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer in the summer and Ronaldo could part ways with United for a second time in his career, if the Red Devils fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Osimhen was a player who was on Rangnick’s radar, but after being quoted a £100m asking price by the Serie A giants, United are exploring other options.

Napoli chairman Aurelio De Larentiis spent a club-record £70m to sign Osimhen from Lille in 2020.

It made the 23-year-old the most expensive African player in history, and De Larentiis clearly wants to make a profit on the player that is in his second season in Italian football, if he were to be sold.

The Nigerian international has 21 goals and seven assists to his name from 52 appearances for Napoli for the Super Eagles, Osimhen has 10 goals from 18 caps for his country.

But after being quoted £100m, United have seemingly balked at the fee and plan to look elsewhere.

The Victor Osimhen news comes on the same day that the Manchester Evening News have reported that Rangnick has ‘major reservations’ about the prospect of Ronaldo spearheading United’s forward line next season.
