Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri is ‘perfect for the Premier League’ with Manchester United one of the clubs tipped to take a look at the Italian should Erik ten Hag be moved on this summer.
With Erik ten Hag’s future uncertain at Manchester United, with Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool and with the likes of Eddie Howe and Mauricio Pochettino under pressure following underwhelming campaigns at Newcastle United and Chelsea, there is a very real chance that some of the biggest jobs in English football will become available in the coming months.
And a man with Max Allegri’s remarkable collection of silverware should have his fair share of admirers, at least according to a man who knows the 56-year-old Italian better than most.
Giovanni Galeone, a former coach and a long-time confidante of Allegri, is convinced that a manager who accumulated six Serie A titles in charge of AC Milan and Juventus would be just as successful in England, even if the veteran tactician’s stock has fallen a little of late amid concerns over his rather attritional football and the stark contrast between his stodgy Juve side and the free-flowing ferocity of runaway league leaders Inter Milan.

“Until some time ago I would’ve told him to stay. Now, however, I’d tell him that the time has come to seek success abroad, as both Capello and Ancelotti did after so many successes in Italy,” Galeone, the former Udinese and Napoli coach, tells Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Allegri coached and won with Milan and Juventus. He is in his eighth season with Juventus, and only (Giovanni) Trapattoni has more games than him. I don’t see Max in Saudi Arabia, but he would be perfect for the Premier League.
“Next summer will be a summer of great changes throughout Europe. I think Max would do very well at Liverpool post-Klopp or at Manchester United.”

Allegri has 14 trophies to his name in all competitions, and across all levels. He twice led Juventus to the Champions League final in the 2010s too, losing out first to Barcelona and then to Real Madrid.
Ten Hag, meanwhile, did his hopes of a third season at Old Trafford no harm during Sunday’s thrilling 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool.
What’s more, if Ineos do opt to replace the Dutchman, it is expected that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co would look to bring in a young, modern and forward-thinking tactician rather than a more old-school tactician such as Allegri, with Graham Potter, Julian Nagelsmann, Thiago Motta and Ruben Amorim among those linked.
